DIY Home Renovation Where To Start

Building For Beginners, Gain The Confidence You Need!

When do you hire a professional? When can you tackle certain jobs yourself??

You may be afraid of making mistakes during the renovation process, such as cutting a piece of wood too short or purchasing the wrong type of material for the job. You may worry that these mistakes will ruin the project and lead to a waste of time, money, and materials.

Write down a checklist of want renovations you want to make. Every single detail.

Which brings up your budget.

Your budget will determine the scope of your renovation as well. Search online and do your research! Be sure to have a 20% contingency fund so you can plan for the unexpected and unforeseen hiccups with your project, it’s kind of like an insurance / buffer.

Having the right tools for the job is a must.

Borrow, buy or rent the tools such as miter saws, sanders, tile saws, etc. Feeling intimidated by these tools and worrying about using them incorrectly or causing yourself injury is normal. Be sure to use all safety precautions.

Build your confidence and skills.

Start with small projects. Depending on the complexity of your project, you may start by demolishing “the famous demo day high” and then stop in your tracks because overwhelm has set in because you’re not sure what your next steps should be.

Personally, I have learned a ton from Jeff Thorman and his easy-to-follow YouTube videos. Be sure to check out his channel @HomeRenoVisionDIY . I love his no-nonsense style, his videos are full of useful tips.
